US crowned women’s ice hockey world champion after Hilary Knight scores hat-trick against Canada

The US women's ice hockey team defeated Canada 6-3 in the World Championship final, emerging victorious in an intense and dramatic game.

Hilary Knight, one of the US team's star players, scored three times to help secure the 10th world title for her country.

The win ended a run of five consecutive losses against Canada for the US, including defeats in the last two world championship finals and the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Canada initially held a 3-2 lead in the game, but the US were given motivation after some sloppy play from the opposition.

Knight was instrumental in the US comeback, scoring two quick goals in the space of just 27 seconds.

American Cayla Barnes scored the final goal of the game, taking advantage of an empty Canadian net to seal the victory for her team.

Knight's performance in the final also saw her extend her US all-time scoring record at the world championships to 101 points.

The dominance of the US and Canada in women's ice hockey is highlighted by the fact that no other country has ever won a world championship.

The women's ice hockey world championship has been held since 1990, and in that time only Canada and the US have claimed the top prize.

In 2019, Finland was the only country other than Canada or the US to reach the final of the women's ice hockey world championship, but they were defeated by the Americans.
